Integrated sexual health services

Sexual health has become a significant health improvement priority over the last few years. Suffolk has rising rates of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) such as chlamydia and rising rates of termination of pregnancy.  Although teenage conception rates are lower than the national average, they are high in some geographical areas of the county.

However, sexual health is more than prevention of STIs and unintended pregnancy; it has elements relating to emotional well-being, positive self-esteem and body image.

TCN is working in partnership with NHS Suffolk and key organisations and agencies, including Suffolk Community Healthcare, to ensure high-quality and confidential services are available to everyone - young or old, male or female, with or without a partner.

Community reproductive and sexual health clinics across the county offer advice and free supply of:

  • The contraceptive pill
  • Condoms for men and women
  • Contraceptive vaginal rings
  • Injections
  • Implants
  • Patches
  • Coils including Mirena
  • Caps
  • Spermicide
  • Emergency contraception

There is also information, counselling, confidential advice and referral for further care (where appropriate) on all sexual matters including:

  • Preparation for pregnancy
  • Pregnancy testing
  • Unplanned pregnancy
  • Abortion
  • Breast and testicular self examination advice
  • Blood testing
  • Sexually transmitted infections - including chlamydia screening for under 25s
  • Sexual difficulties
  • Sexual and general health promotion

Clinic staff will also provide advice about male and female sterilisation.

For up-to-date information on clinic opening times, and clinics offering booked appointments and/or walk-in sessions without the need to make an appointment, please telephone 0300 123 3650.
